Dr. Bruce Worden
Dr. Worden just released Version 4 of ShakeMap, a system that provides near-real-time maps of ground motion and shaking intensity following significant earthquakes. These maps are used by federal, state, and local organizations, both public and private, for post-earthquake response and recovery, public and scientific information, as well as for preparedness exercises and disaster planning. This release is a ground-up modernization of critical and USGS flagship earthquake information product, and went live into production for the USGS Earthquake Program on Monday, Feb 25th following USGS Fundamental Science Practices (FSP).
Dr. Worden also published a highly-regarded scientific journal article on the underlying interpolation method he devised in the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America. This week, he will be briefing U.S. national seismic network operators on the new ShakeMap V4 and how they can implement his software around the Nation. The new release has been well received by the user community and recognized for its quality work to advance the field of Seismology.
